Description "Kehys - Frame is a two-part location-specific performance designed for the Kirpilä Art Collection’s gallery, in which the museum’s history-conserving concept of time engages in dialogue with live performance, dance and contemporary literature. The soundscape fed through headsets to the visitors as they move around the gallery space builds a parallel universe within the performance. The paintings are reframed when seen through the text, and the dance performance dissolves into the glow of human warmth beside the artworks.
The new dance piece turns a significant private art collection managed by the Finnish Cultural Foundation into an interartistic hall of mirrors. Frame combines the delicate, virtuosic movements of two dancers with iconoclastic texts by Jaakko Yli-Juonikas.
At the Kirpilä Art Collection, two people’s home, lives and ardent passion for art have, over time, transformed into a museum. With this performance I have aimed for tension, as the text in a way miscontextualises the surrounding fine art, while the dance in turn challenges the meta-work created out of the paintings by the text. Can a single artwork simultaneously house both absurd humour that carnivalises the artistic canon and sanctity-aspiring beauty without a trace of irony?"
