Description |
The central theme of Westward Ho! is the song Jesus' blood never failed me yet - formely collected from an old English tramp. The work begins with the dynamic repetition of a simple series of pendulous movements. The choreography creates a coherent and harmonic impression despite the theme of the absurdity of life. Saarinen's choreography was inspired by the words of Laurie Anderson: "There is no pure land now. No safe place. And we stand here on the pier, watching you drown." |
