Description |
In the trio Friedenplatz, we have thought about the nature of democracy and community. What is we? Is it possible to be “us”, without intrinsically covering the recognition of differentiality? We have pondered these questions from the viewpoints of ethics and practice, dancing and discussing. We did not approach these questions with specific theatrical or performative intent, but rather from the traditions of dance. Can dancers be independent and equal participants in “discussion through movement”, without the strutures of Sameness often brought on by choreographic conventions. We wanted to create an open forum of unpredictable, shared thinking and perception practice. This trio is not tied to choreographed steps, it is born again in each performance through the interaction of dance, musical structures, qualitative guidelines and dancers’ actions – and in dialogue with the audience. The ‘location’ of the trio is created by Giacinto Scelsi’s meditative piano suite no 9 (“Ttai”). Scelsi characterized this work “a succession of episodes alternately expressing Time (or more precisely Time in Motion) and Man, as symbolized by cathedrals or monasteries, with the sacred sound of – Om.” Scelsi’s music is far detached from conventional forms, structures and hiearchies of music, and is built above all on tonal sounds, energies and experiences of time.
