Description |
My starting point for Lichtweg – Friedenplatz was the examination of the relation between private and public and the search for the possibilities of political dance in our time. In the solo, my question focused on the individual: who is she? This question is inevitably tied to the historical and cultural surroundings of the individual. It is also related to the individual’s experience of the world, to bodily and lingual memory. If the starting point is the aim to respect an individual’s experiential uniqueness and undefinedness, then the question of who she is must remain open, without final answers - all attempts of absolute definition (with one truth overriding all others) are potential weapons of totalitarian power – as we have repeatedly witnessed. The solo Lichtweg formed into a series of danced miniature portraits. Their script was made into a written, poetic path. This script path is danced three times, and each portrait thus created is different. The music consists of Mikko Hynninen’s Lichtweg-remix of Giacinto Scelsi’s piano suit No. 8 “Bot-ba”– the composer’s homage to the monasteries, monks, rituals and dances of Tibet.
