| Description |
As a performance, choreographer Eeva Juutinen and the working group’s EMO is a character and whole that is researching, reflecting, fragmenting, projecting, and living its character, which is inspired by the intensities and intimacy of emptiness and silence in theatre space and performativity. EMO researches the formation of bodily character and identity and its problematics and poetics. It mixes expressionism and minimalism, as two opposite and extreme ways of relating to the inner world and its existence. It focuses on how something emerges again and again in time through imagination, body, environment, and its surfaces. It explores the meaning of gaze and creates strong visuals balanced by sensuality and difference, intimacy and the non-human. EMO’s gaze, receptivity, breathing, materiality, and poetry create different feelings through sensuality and contrasts. The piece EMO has been formed from break analysis in relation to bodily break practice, in which the analysis is seen as a potentially fun thing. EMO incorporates different styles without choosing any one aesthetic for itself. The work asks how the way of relating to being, continuity, and change creates identity, emphasizing how rather than what we are. It explores balancing, locking, and releasing its attention. EMO makes room for subconscious, incomprehensible, and symbolism while organizing itself in between uncontrollable and control. EMO wants to show the personal aspect of space and explore its multiple characters and meanings. |
