Description |
Theatrical dance performance Blackpool takes the audience on a journey to the tough world of competitive ballroom dancing and reveals the rugged everyday life to be found behind the glamour. This intimate and autobiographical theatre experience has been made with love and contains drama and black humour. The performance reeks of self-tan and grates like a suede-sole shoe rasp. Old wounds that have already healed are re-opened, poked fun at and shared un-censored with the audience. Contemporary dance choreographers Milla Virtanen and Jaakko Toivonen are both former Finnish national ballroom dance champions. Experiences from their ballroom dance youth and competing at the British Open Championships during the Blackpool Dance Festival, the oldest and most famous annual ballroom dancing event organised since 1920, serve as inspiration for the work. |
