Description |
Dear reader, Clandestine sites: Displaced is a choreographic work constructed of four solo performances. Each part addresses the spectator with different means and in specific relation to language and choreography. The first is for an absent performer, second for a trubadour, third for a dancer and fourth for music. The primary text of the creation is Roland Barthes A Lover's Discourse – Fragments (1977), and additional references such as Orlando by Virginia Woolf (1927) and The Pleasure of The Text also by Barthes. The work approaches the performance as a love relation; between the audience, the performer, and the materials of the performance. Springing from the same questions, each solo insists on and negotiates them differently. What if performance is considered as an amorous relation? What does it mean to read a book as a dance or to write choreography as text? What are the possible cuts and folds between a book and a performance? How could the performance itself become a loving subject? “SUMMER SWAMPS A PEAT BIRD ONE THOUSAND YEARS PER METER PLEASE FORGET WHAT I WROTE” (Haiku written by Chrysa) X Veli |
