Description |
Lover of the Pianist is a playfully erotic and evocative solo performance staged by the dancer and choreographer Elina Pirinen. Throughout the performance she dances, sings, talks and plays music. Surrendering herself recklessly to love, she is both direct and secretive, occasionally even flirting with the audience. The lighting design begs the question: is the function of light merely to add intensity, or is it a narrative element? In its themes and stage design Lover of the Pianist is an expanded sequel to Pirinen’s acclaimed Friend of the Pianist, which premiered at the Full Moon Dance Festival in 2009. Lover of the Pianist will mark Pirinen’s debut at Zodiak. A captivating, sensitive, technically skilful, funny and passionate dancer-musician, Pirinen is also a thought-provoking choreographer. Lover of the Pianist is her third collaboration with the lighting designer Nanni Vapaavuori. |
